Scholarly journals

Journal articles are the most important publications in scientific communication. Researchers use them to keep up to date on research developments and to share their results.

There are several different types of texts:

  •  Original articles.
  •  Reviews that present the state of the art.
  • Short communications used to present preliminary results and to announce discoveries quickly, thus marking the date the researchers made them..

Articles submitted to journals are reviewed by a paper review board that accepts or rejects them. If an article is approved, the board will often suggest changes to be made before the article is published and distributed.

A researcher’s work will be assessed based on his/her entire scientific output. This output will also be taken into consideration for assessing the researcher’s laboratory and organisation.
